September 2020 — Company constituted
Algae & Algae Società Agricola r.l. was incorporated in Italy.
November 2020 — Local support
A relevant local public office issued a project support letter.
April 2021 — Land secured
The 32-hectare Mesagne site was acquired, with the SNAM pipeline crossing the property.
June 2021 — Permitting launched
The Autorizzazione Unica application process commenced.
September 2021 — Capitalisation
The company was capitalised to approximately €5 million.
July 2022 — Sustainability analysis
Feedstock analysis demonstrated compliance with the relevant GSE emissions-reduction requirement.
1 August 2024 — Permit award
Autorizzazione Unica was obtained following the multi-department review process.
30 October 2024 — GSE operating support
The project was awarded a 15-year GSE operating-support pathway at €1.27/Sm³, with an estimated 15-year value of €247.6 million.
2025 — Feedstock coverage
Executed feedstock contracts cover the first five operating years, with cooperative framework capacity providing an additional supply buffer.
October 2025 — Biomethane offtake signed
A 15-year agreement was signed covering 100% of planned saleable biomethane production. The management case assigns €13.6 million to the additional offtake premium and €261.2 million to the combined 15-year GSE support and offtake value.
May 2026 — CO₂ offtake signed
A five-year renewable agreement was signed covering 100% of planned recovered CO₂ production.
5 June 2026 — GSE grant publication
GSE confirmed a capital-grant allocation of €8.8 million. The award terms identify 5 June 2028 as the deadline for the first molecule of gas to be injected into the grid.
21 August 2026 — Technical Due Diligence
An independent technical review issued by RINA supports validation of the design, construction and operating assumptions.
Expected delivery
- 1 January 2027: expected start of construction.
- Q1 2028: expected start of production.
- Early Q3 2028: expected full production.
